With all these qualities combined in one ship, the longship was unrivaled for centuries, until the arrival of the great cog. In Scandinavia, the longship was the usual vessel for war even with the introduction of cogs in the 12th–13th centuries.

The ship is not a replica of any specific original longship, but was built by authentic construction methods. It was constructed in Haugesund, Norway and launched in 2012. This approach has worked well, and we now have a decision basis.
